The probe landed on the moon’s south pole as the first American probe in 50 years.
The unmanned Odysseus moon probe sent photos of the moon’s surface to NASA this week, featuring some of the closest images to the moon’s surface ever captured. The lunar vehicle was launched by NASA on February 15th.
Intuitive Machines, the aerospace firm that developed and operated the moon probe, stated, “Flight controllers are communicating and commanding the vehicle to download science data.”
Odysseus landed on the moon on February 22nd, a few miles away from its intended destination at the moon’s south pole. The six-legged probe tipped sideways while it landed, disrupting communications and reducing its solar chargers’ ability to recharge its batteries.
